I did see that the Branson Celebration City arcade downgraded its DDR machine from Extreme to MAX2 due to concerns over the song Little doggy. Musically, it's a fun combination of rock and ska; lyrically, it tells a dark tale of love gone wrong, suicide, and hate (with the word doggy prominent in the end of the second verse). I don't believe there's any way to lock one specific DDR song out; besides, what's considered offensive here in the U.S. is different from Japanese culture. Mind you, Branson is a very conservative venue; you won't find, say, Capcom Vs. SNK 2, Tekken 4, or Crisis Zone in the arcades - the most violent game there is a deer-hunting simulation. (Actually, the Grand Palace arcade does have Street Fighter III: Third Strike, but Celebration City is more of a family-oriented theme park.) What concerns me is, what if DDRMAX2 gets kicked out because of DJ Alligator's The Whistle Song? It's a fun type of song, but the subtitle "Blow My Whistle doggy" and the overall allusion to oral you-know-what could cause problems. I get the feeling that literally any version of Dance Dance Revolution could have at least one song that would offend somebody... At least MAX2 doesn't have any E-ROTIC songs on it.
We often see ESRB-type cards on arcade machines warning of strong violence or such; do we need an Explicit Lyrics advisory? We previously heard of a Solo machine being pulled from an arcade due to the overtly sexy nurse character... While I hardly support censorship, I do understand to some extent the need to make sure the machines in the arcade are appropriate in content to the image of the venue. What do you think?... |

I like that song Little Bitch it's really cool.
Subliminal messages rock. And Tekken 4? The only thing violent about that game is the drama that goes on after a match between me and another guy that gets mad after he gets his ass kicked 5 straight times and refuses to believe I'm actually a decent player. _________________

I'm just throwing out fighting games as an example. As I said, Celebration City is very family oriented... (Other fun arcade games there: Crazy Taxi, Daytona USA, ticket redemption games.) |

<RANT TARGET="Censorship">
I'm not one for those kinds of songs (I refer to them as "angry music"), but one thing I have less tolerance for than bad music is censorship
One thing that really irratates me is when people try to persecute games / music / videos / whatever because it isn't the soft fluffy Christianly ideal image they think it should be. Censorship in this country is moderately extreme and it makes me sick at times. A good deal of music is labeled "Mild Lyrics." Our games all have "Mature" written on the side of the box because.... *gasp* when you kill a zombie blood comes out! Will the sight of blood scar you children's souls? I doubt it.... Movies and anime are pointlessly edited for TV, sometimes to the point of queasiness. They next time I hear an anime character say "moron" when his archnemesis kills his best friend, I'm going to scream >_<
If someone is offended by something, that's their own fault. However, it's not like there's nothing they can do about it. They should learn from that, and if they find their disliking of that *something* so great, they should avoid it. Their negative feelings SHOUDL NOT bleed onto those who do enjoy it. That would be an injustice just as great as being offended in the first place.
As for the small children... (somebody PLEASE think of the Children!)..... It's my belief its better not to try and shield children from the "Evils of the Real World." They will experience them all eventually, and its better to learn earlier in life than later.
Disagree with me where you wish, but this is how I feel about censorship.

Agreed. If I don't like a song, I don't play it. Still, I am glad Celebration City didn't just give up on DDR altogether... I do seem to think that a privately owned console game and a publicly displayed arcade game can be held to different standards, though. Just my opinion, really. |

tsk tsk tsk...I just dont get it.
J-KO Yes Highs Off U Does have fuck in it. Towards 1/4 th of the song with the female flowing.
And with the morally corrupt teenagers in this society I dont see where censorship is a factor anymore. It seems as if these days if you dont say a cuss word you're not cool anymore. I feared everything will happen.
And Disney Land where I live. (Anaheim) got rid of their Max 2 because of the Whistle Song and it's subliminal and harsh reality message.
Speaking of Nick Please Not So quick I love the First Screen shot. The opening screen. Gotta love the "Gun" that guy is holding. _________________

They say "Get the fsck out" like 100 times in Ska a Go Go on Beatmania 6th + core, and use the F word a couple more times in that song. _________________

Yeah, I noticed that on Highs Off You as well... "F---in' ya up everytime that I drop 'em..." It doesn't really stand out as much as some... I really like using ellipses, don't I?... |

If I remember correctly many 6 flags locations are getting rid of their machines because of one persons complaint about the song. _________________

Just what's the point of having DDR then it's not just one song but many songs that may have moaning, obscenties, etc? I just wonder why downgrade to DDRMAX it doesn't solve the problem. Your always gonna have the same problem no matter what machine you got. |
