Here's the deal:
If the pad moves around too much for you, try the plywood mod.
If you don't like how the foam feels, try the chairmat mod.
Try both if the pad just feels like total ass to you.
The main thing though: try it without any mods first. |
WTF? Where the hell did all these posts come from? I kept getting an error when i tried to post before, but when i posted now it finally didn't give me an error and then it showed all these posts. Can you MODS delete my previous 4 posts? Back to the question: What about sticky arrows and ghost steps? |

i recently bought BNS Ultra-NX DDR Dance Pad for PC & Playstation/PS2
I've had it for about a month now
Here's what i got so far (this is playing on hardwood floors)
Performance: its came with four little sticky things to help reduce slidage but they dont work at all. On my hardwood floors, however, the slidage is minimum. The responsiveness is great and blah blah blah. I use DWI and the adapter that came with it hooks up to the printer slot... it works great. I bought mine from buynshop.com
(http://www.buynshop.com/productinfo.php3?PID=VG-DDR-ULTPC) You do need to install a driver, but in buynshop's product info it had some links to get it working
Durability: as a little shrimp of 105lbs. (all muscle) it's holding up fine |

Generally, sticky arrows and ghost steps don't show up in Ignition 2.0 style pads (black foam). If they do, it's usually due to a pad defect and will show up quickly, and in those cases doing a mod won't help. Modding an Ignition 2.0 style pad is ONLY needed if you don't like the feel of the pad or the way it moves around. |

For 1.0 Ignitions, these problems have largely been fixed. |

Crap! I forgot to buy a BNS Dance Pad Cover. Is a dance pad cover really necessary? Has any of your dance pads ever gotten messed up becasue you didn't use a dance pad cover? BTW, I am going to do a chair mat mod because in this thread: http://www.ddrfreak.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=20300&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=40 on the third page, wumpus says he experienced phantom steps with his 2.0 ignition pad and when he did a chair mat mod, they were gone. My question is, what type of chair mat do i need - a low pile chair mat or a medium pile chairmat? |

I have a CypherGames Deluxe Ignition 2.0 Pad which I got on ebay from a seller named plegend2001 like the one mosaic purchased. My pad has sticky arrows/ghost steps on the left and/or down arrow. If modding the pad won't fix these problems, is there anything that I can do to fix my pad so I don't need to buy a new one? |

Why is it that people get higher scores on ignition pads when they remove the insert. If you play without the insert a lot, can't you mess up the pad? Is the pad less responsive with the insert in it? |

I tried removing the insert in my pad today and it got rid of the sticky arrows/phantom steps, but I'm not sure it is good to play w/o an insert. I think I am going to try the chair mat mod and I hope that fixes the problems. |

Just thought I'd give a little quick update on how my modded CG 1.0s are doing.
I have my pads modded with the chairmat mod, the celotex mod (boy was THAT a waste of money ), and I have the pad affixed to a wooden board covered with shelf-liner along the bottom so it doesn't slide. I've also got a latching gizmo in place to physically LOCK the two pads together for versus or doubles.
I've been adding a few of those mods over time, but I've had the actual pads since November. Both pads have been given a fair amount of abuse and they're still working pretty well. I'm starting to notice a little bit of ghosting, but it's not bad. I figure these pads will last through the summer before the ghosting gets worse; at which point, I plan on buying a set of CG 2.0s.
I've got a friend with BNS Ignitions that have the black foam inside. I've asked him to bring the foam over sometime so I can see how the pads work with the black foam and chairmat, just to serve as a comparison to my current setup with white foam and chairmat. I'm pretty sure the black foam will help (duh), but I just wanna get a feel for it myself.
So! Verdict: Chairmat modded CG Ignition 1.0s still work pretty well after six months. Expected useable lifespan of three more months.
EDIT: Since people are asking about how the pads work with the foam removed, I think I'll comment on that. I've tried using my pads with the foam entirely removed. It works really really accurately, but it doesn't feel that comfortable. Your feet take a bit more abuse, at least on my floor surface (carpet). |

I've had my DDR NATION Ignition Pad for over a month now and I love it. I haven't had any problems with it so far and it seems to be a very nice pad. It's sensitive and the best thing is, that it was pretty low price ^_- AND I got a free gift for buying a pad XD So that's always nice.
Just thought I'd throw this out there for anybody having questions about these pads. _________________

We have the same pad with the chairmat mod and both pads are giving us sticky arrows with only a few weeks of use. If you don't mind, how much do you weigh? I have a theory that things like sticky arrows is highly dependant upon the weight of the users, as the heavier users are going to cause more foam compression, both in the internal sensor seperation foam as well as the foam insert. This larger force and higher compression will result in greater indendation (even with the chair mat mod) and thus slower pad foam recovery from steps/impacts and earlier failure of the pads as the internal foam degrades (ie onset of sticky arrows). My wife and I are both over 200 lbs and both pads are exhibiting problems, and I suspect it could be at least partially due to our weight.
I also wonder how much storage has to do with it, as some people probably just leave them out sitting on the ground while others might stand them up etc. I think a fatal error we made was storing them behind the sofa standing up, as they would "sag" and bend a bit, which I think also led to early failure of the internal foam due to a constant force being placed upon them even when not in use (the sagging/bending/curving force).
I believe there are many factors that contribute to the failure of all these different pads that simply are not being accounted for, and these factors may be far more important than which company sold the pads. _________________

I am 14 years old, 6'6", and 104 lbs. Will I experience sticy arrows?Should I store my pad by just placing it under my bed unfolded? Which mod(s) did you do to your ignition pads? How effective are they? |

I've had two Ignition Pads 2.0 since December and about a month ago they suddenly stopped working. I think the problem may have been something I read about awhile back about static breaking ppls pads.
Both pads' sensors work perfectly but when I step on the pad the light doesn't light up and pad doesn't respond. I'm pretty sure this is the static problem cuz this is the 2nd time I broke 2 pads like that. Also they broke right after I took one out then plugged it back in and I always play in socks _________________
