I was wondering who is that TSUG guy on the machine top 5? Is that a guy from some other team. Oh, and thanks for using my suggestion for SOTR. ^.^ I like the way he says "SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW JUST GOT OWNED". Keep up the good work. |

You are absolutely right, Jon! I mean, drawing, or any art for that matter, should be done for the pleasure, NOT because people hound you to do it. When people start getting on your case about something you LOVE to do, it really starts getting more and more frustrating. Like today, when I was playing DDR, one guy kept telling me which song to do, and do it on maniac. I finally told him, "Did you pay for this game? Are you the one playing this game? No! I'm playing, so let me play the way I want to!" He didn't say anything else to me that was negative. Well, that's my 2 cents worth, so I'm outta here for now! Bai bi! _________________

HAHAHA... yeah! Parappa... man, that is so funny. Hahahahaha...
Kel Ichijouji: rock on, way to represent! =D I mean, it's one thing if the guy was giving out a suggestion when you had no preference in what to play... but when some kid is like, "No, do this, do that" it's like... "Go away." I, personally, am a big fan of the, "Uh uh... don't go there" *waves finger like a black woman*. Right... X_x *dies* _________________

I think we all need, for Makoto's sake, to clarify something...
1. When the comic will be done is a question that probably cannot be answered, SO STOP ASKING!
2. Art is hard, I draw too, and it's very stressful at times when you have people banging on your back every three seconds to keep working... And I don't think we have a right, because we're not paying her money for labor...
3. If you rush an artist, they won't produce a product as high as it could have been, I know that too well...
4. Makoto apparently does this comic for leisure, or used to. If it is still in fact, something she likes to do, let's not kill the "I actually want to do this" aura...
5. Let's just keep the thread for praise and in-story questions okay, it's more fun that way...
Okay okay, maybe I'm too zealous, but I am an artist of sorts, and it bugs the crap out of me when people rush me for something they're not paying for... I'm with Kel and Sai on this one...
The Younger Makoto Wrote: Quote: | hee hee "frostbite" that's a cute name... |
Heheh, I'm happy, if it's cute, then it sticks... I like it myself, but I need to find the Japanee symbol for it, so I can make a killer logo...
Oh yeah, I forgot, I have more respect for Makoto than ever, because I'm working on my freakshow comic The Revolution's Edge And I haven't even got the dang title page done... ARGGHHHH!! But then again, I'm a labor intensive freak, like in DDR, except without fatigue from slipping off the pad and almost breaking my ankles...
Blah blah blah blah...
I think I've joined the Makoto fan club...

On another note...
Makoto, I really like your drawing style. It's very distinguished from most manga's I've been into. It kinda has the Preist manga sketchy style to it, but of course, not near as dark, and you have lots of solid color to adorn it. |

Wow, when I'm working I can be online all day but when I have to go somewhere else I sure lose track of everything!
a few answers:
Yes, TSUG was the scoretag for Tsugaru-Gaeshi, which used to be NINJA's stage name... now because his name changes all the time, he just uses PARK as his tag, but I'd already done that page so it still shows his old tag.
And it's hard to say how long the entire series will be... I'm adding 14 more pages this weekend (instead of 12 like I thought) and so the script now is looking to be more than 240 pages long-- that's to the end of the 10K Commotion Tournament. There will also be an epilogue (EXTRA Stage) and I'm not yet sure how long that will be.
Since I like all these characters, right now the epilogue includes room for me to start a second manga which I'll do after I'm back in Japan. (That'll probably be about the 10K Crew going to Japan, since part of the grand prize is that whoever wins the whole tournament will get to go to Japan to the Bemani 3rd party studio to model/mo-cap for the characters in the DDR10K Mix... a fictional game btw, since people are already talking about how there won't be anymore DDR mixes for a long while)
And yes, it takes a WHOLE lot of time to draw, scan, paint and letter these pages. I'm really glad people want to see more, but I hope no one is too upset at me. The issue is that REAL manga artists in Japan have a staff of people to do thing like get background reference, draw extra characters, add all the lettering and text and stuff... but I have to do everything myself here. So it's not as good quality and it takes a bit longer.
Ha ha, Kel, you tell those punks! I've actually had people step up and push the buttons for me! But don't give in just because people want to see you entertain them. They can put their OWN quarters down...
Parappa is one of my heros btw... small, inexperienced character who by the end gets up and rocks the stage. That's my plan too. I've just gotta believe. And I've gotta finish this manga. And I've gotta move back to Kyushu.
Also I can send you the kanji for Shimoyake, but it's really not very attractive the first kanji looks like the radical for snow + aite no AI, and the second is like burn from a barbeque-- ha ha ha. I think it's cooler in roman letters
Mytchness I've only seen a little of Priest but I've heard good things about it! I don't speak korean so I can't read the originals, but Tokyopop started translating it last summer. I'll take that as a big compliment because I want my sketches to have a good feel to them... like inside the arcade is the darkest and coolest blue, but then as you go out toward the light it gets warmer...
In Chapter 2 they'll actually be OUTDOORS for a bit, so I hope to use color even more to make you feel the temperature... we'll see-- this weekend mo yoroshiku! _________________

YIPPEE!!! I can't wait until I get to read more! But of course, as always, take your time. II don't think anyone's upset with you, and if they ARE, let 'em come to me, and I'LL tell 'em! Heehee... I love yelling at people when they upset me! Anyways, I'm sure no matter what the setting, you're doing a great job at making us "feel" the temperature, and what the atmosphere is like in and out of the arcade! Yahoo! _________________

I'm so glad you guys are here for me, but looks like we don't have to throw down yet--
I finished that other job and POOF! I got this update done early! Wahoo... and I even had time to make some new banners:
Second Stage: The Away Team is updated!
(Hana finally gets a banner... I made new ones for Dyna, Candy and Cyber too) let me know what you think of the new lettering... the balloons and all are different too. I hope it continues to be an interesting read even though it wasn't written to be broken up like this...
And Saiyajin brought up a good point which is that some people would rather just wait and read the whole chapter at once instead of in small pieces... I agree, I'd rather do it that way just because otherwise it's kinda like watching 10 minutes of a TV show each week so you see an entire episode per month.
However that's the schedule for now... each month there will be an entire chapter posted or more, so for those who want to wait till it's done, they can. If you don't wanna wait, or just want to see what new drawings I've done, then checking more is better. I'll keep shooting for every week till it's all done. I'm happy because from the first few pages I drew, I think I've made lots of improvements-- here's hoping I keep getting better--
As always, observations and opinions are welcome!
whew! I love summertime! _________________

Haha, dude, I love how you mix drama and comedy in this. And you're right! Your colors are very vibrant. Gotta love it. When I started reading this one, and when Candy stepped in and took things so maturely, it kinda reminded me of you handling the criticism from that one dude earlier on in the beginning of the topic? You know what I'm saying? So props for being able to maintain a consistent personality for your characters.
Just curious, what inspired the whole bra scene? |
