ok, i really luv freezes...esp on the maxes...like on unlimited...they are hard, but fun.

what i hate tho, is people who say they don't like freezes, and turn them off, then say what grade they got on the song w/o them. b/c whether or not u like them, it is a bunch harder to play w/ them than to have them off...

I never understood why this part gave people so much trouble. It's almost the easiest part of the song for me.[quote="frek"]

I like freeze arrows. They can really catch u off gaurd (which is good cuz i like hard surprising stuff). I especially like them when there are other steps with them or when ur close to failing. They really help my grade.

Wow. I haven't been to these boards for half a year, and alot of the posts are still there. (Best shoes, What song should be here, etc. etc.) Anyway, I love freeze arrows. They add a new dimension to the game, and are great for FS.

Freeze arrows are evil to me. While I do think they are DDR's version of the devil, that doesn't stop me from playing songs that don't have too many in them. It adds enough of a new dimension for the songs that use them and doesn't strictly rely on consistent motion to hit arrows.

It is nice to be able to toggle them on/off depending on personal preference. There are enough problems in life without having to worry about doing a complete foot plant on an arrow and using the other foot to hit the residual arrows

I actually love the Freeze arrows, they provide me with a challenge. I really hate it sometimes when I hit the Freeze arrow and it doesn't register and come out NG. I also think for those who turn the freeze off it doesn't really neccessarily mean you passed the song.

No. Freeze arrows don't help your bar, or affect your grade. You can AAA a song and not get a single OK. Releasing a freeze gives you an NG which drops your bar a lot. It doesn't help your score to get OK, not does it harm it to get NG. What it does with score is missing OKs reduces your Freeze Bonus. 'laugh.gif' I've studied this Freeze arrow thing a bit.

Meanwhile, yes, Freeze arrows BITE on stages that need cleaning, or on pads that are getting Fuzzy. (I only got one good on BeForU Oni before failing, it was all the stages fault with dropping my freeze arrows and all... I coulda passed it too) On even ok pads though, they're fun. What's really fun to do is disobey the freezes. On air, you can switch your feet fast and look, you're in a new position.

The reason why you can do this is because the designers left a gap for freeze arrows before you loose them. I think this is for bad pads and what not. This means that I can take my foot of a freeze and put it back on, and still manage to keep that OK. I find that melting Freeze arrows is more fun than playing regular. It lets you actually control the order and pattern you step in during segments that normally you're forced to go in a certain order on.

Meanwhile, yeah, bad pad = turn of freezey.

Freeze arrows are awesome. It makes you do certain series in ways you would never do them if you didn't have to keep one foot down.

I'm not really a fan of them. Unless their really short and don't involve hitting any other arrows while your holding a freeze. My main reason for this is that, at least at my arcade, holding a freeze is kinda hard for me. I'm a little lightweight and unless I really make an effort to put all my weight on the arrows, or hold the bar for added leverage, I lose freezes rather easily. And it REALLY bugs me to see NG's pop up even though I'm on the freeze correctly, just not pushing down with enough weight.

I'm not sure if they add to your life bar, but I know they effect your grade. If you get all perfects and miss a freeze, that's only a AA. Songs with a lot of freezes are (if you hit the freezes) a lot easier to get better grades on.

Grade calculations are based on "dance points."
Perfect = 2
Great = 1
Good = 0
Boo = -4
Miss = -8
OK = 6
NG = 0

Look it up at www.aaroninjapan.com, in the scoring and grading section.

I have a love-hate relationship with freeze arrows.

Hate 'em E18.gif at the arcade. My 95-pound stature just doesn't apply enough pressure to get an OK on any long freeze arrow unless I press down really hard. They are the one thing I dread when playing at the arcade.

edit: OK, now that I can hold through the majority of the freeze arrows I do at the arcade, I'm starting to like them there. Still, I'm not that fond of them...

Love 'em love.gif at home. This is why I play with soft pads: freeze arrow registry. Freeze arrows add an extra challenge to the songs. Especially my favorite freeze arrows listed below:
Ordinary World: crossover or turn around. I like turning around on the last one, but the first one leads right into an 8th note stream... really, 7 feet? More like an 8...
Candy*: Requires you to think about which foot to place on the up arrow when doing the up-down jumps.
Sandstorm (Standard): Very tricky.
And, of course, I love littering my edits with freezes that force you to turn around.
