Hey, I heard that changing the region code on ANY DVD player (including ps2) is illegal. Does that mean i could get arrested or something for a mod chip/swap magic disks? Any information would be appreciated. Thnx. |

Yes the moment you change the DVD region the FBI will bust down the door, you will be held in jail with out trial, and then executed.
Seriously tho its about as illegal as Mp3s _________________

The model of PS2 i see used the most is the SCPH-30001. And from what I can tell I can get a Magic 3.1 chip for it. I just want to make sure this is correct before I go out and buy both.
I want the mod so that I can play import games, not burns or copies. I don't really care about those. I'm just looking to be able to play ligitimate versions of DDRMax and DDRMax2 JP versions. |
Despite what that guy is saying in red text below your post earlier, this DOES WORK FINE. My SCPH-30001 V4 PS2 and Magic 3.1 mod chip are living proof. I played my legitimate MAX2 Japanese today, yesterday, last week, all the time I've had it, and it works fine. You have nothing to worry about getting all that stuff. _________________

2 questions:
What is the best place to buy an Import System, as in relyability
Does the voltage of the PS2 make a difference, I know jap/usa use different voltages, do I need to look for a special one for it to work? |

Any of the modchip dealers havea good PS2s
The voltage difference between a Japanese PS2 and an American SP2 is very similar so you more than likely wont need one. Only if you got a PAL PS2 would you actually need a special converter. _________________

hey guys. well, there's lots of good reviews for psx-tech.com
i was chatting with this one guy from IRC and he led me to International Gaming World..http://www.internationalgamingworld.com...they are located in San Diego i believe. i was wondering if anyone has bought a modchip from these guys and if they are reliable or not. also installations are cheaper here for dms3 and messiah2 by like $5 or $10. what do you guys think?....
also, is the dms3 worth paying the 10 extra dollars? _________________

I just got my flip top PS2 thing today. Man, I think it ruined my laser... for some reason when I put in a disc, it sounds like I just turned on a garbage disposal. WHAT THE HELL DID I DO WRONG????? ... I am so frustrated... any help would be appreciated.
~Edit: Okay, now I'm going a bit crazy here. Okay, a bit crazy is an understatement... I'm almost delerious. I am beginning to think I spent 35 dollars to ruin my PS2... HOW THE HELL DID EVERYONE ELSE DO THIS WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS?!?!?!??!?!?!?!??!!? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! _________________

Ohhhhhh shiiiiiiiit x_x
I don't know about anyone else but I'd rush that thing to a tech first thing in the morning. Though I'm not sure how many techs in your area deal with PS2s. I'm lucky enough to be able to drive to a couple places that service them on a regular basis - and even luckier that I haven't needed to do so yet... _________________

I think everyone who gets the fliptop has the same problem. It has nothing to do with your laser; it's that you're putting the disc in badly and it's scraping against the sides.
Do this - put a disc in normally. Let the drive close. Turn off your PS2, open the lid, and examine how the disc is positioned. Put your finger on the spindle and try spinning it a few times.
Then remove the disc, put in a new one, and try to get it to spin the same way.
Essentially, if you try to put the disc in flat, it will catch on the lip on the left side (if you're facing from the front). You need to push the disc just slightly down past that lip, but not too far.
You'll get the hang of it, it just takes some practice. _________________

But, Remy, it happens even when I put in the disc normally... without putting it in from up top. There is no way I *can* put it in without this happening... X-x
It almost seems like the white thing they have you rip out of the old PS2 cover, and "gently press into place" on the new cover has way too much jiggle room. I have a Japanese SCPH-100000 or whatever.. the first Japanese model. I don't know if that would have anything to do with it or not; but the site doesn't seem to think so. Who knows. I can't even get a Japanese disc to play anymore, even if I put it in through the slidey door. I have no idea why... I just can't figure it out. _________________

I live in Michigan... there are no techs that deal with PS2s... well, perhaps around Detroit; but I know there aren't any up north where I live. I just e-mailed the manufacturer to see what I did wrong. _________________

Okay, I fixed the problem with the original cover... but the flip top still doesn't work for crap. I know it has something to do with the white discular holder for the CD-cone. It's not going down far enough, or something... anyone know where I can go to get a replacement that would work? _________________

Would anyone reccommend the knife swap trick? I don't think that getting a mod chip is what I really want because :
I only have 2 PS2 backup games.
If I want to play them at my friend's house, I don't wanna lug my PS2 everywhere.
It's really cheap even though you need a gameshark. |

anyone know if these are as good as they say?
http://www.ps2-bootdiscs.co.uk/playstation2.htm
they claim
Allows every Playstation 2 to play every Playstation 2 and Playstation 1 backups
Allows USA PS2 machines to play JAP, EUR & USA PS2 + PS1 games
Allows JAP PS2 machines to play USA, EUR & JAP PS2 + PS1 games
Allows EUR PS2 machines to play JAP, USA & EUR PS2 + PS1 games
Works with all CDR AND DVD-R!
Works 100% with Every PS1 + PS2 Game - even double disc games!
Full Instructions Provided
PS2 boot disc will enable your PS2 console to play all types and regions of cd's copied or originals without the need for a modchip
they also claim no hardware modifacation is needed. so i guess you dont need a flip top cover for this cd?
will this work for PS1 Orignal DDR imports? and PS2 Orignal DDR imports? _________________
