Come on down and give her some business. Its privately owned, meaning more cash = other games (we were the ones that talked her into getting Premiere 3). So, I say, go for it! |
thats too far away!!!!!! Oh well, I guess im gonna have to jump on a train to new jersey. Or use my private jet.......
wait I dont got a private jet. oh well I guess im stuck playing PREX for the rest of my life. |

Hey PM, there's a Premiere 3 in the Cincy, OH area. It's in some roller skating rink or something like that. I will have the name by the weekend or Monday, so I will just edit this post with the name of it.

OK.
Concord mills (mall I play DDR in) might be getting a PIU machine sometime soon. This irritates me because I wanted sometihng like a Beatmania IIDX or a ParaParaParadise (the later might be a possibility, though).
Tell me, what does PIU have to offer me, as a DDR player. Change my mind about PIU so I dont think its a waste of space even though I haven't played one. Change my ignorant mind.
And btw, this post is supposed to be meant in the most friendly way possible. If you're insulted, or just think I'm another hard headed DDR zealot, please get a grip, kthx. |

Alex, if you have an open mind about MUSIC, then you will love Pump it Up. Many DDR players complain that Pump's music is lame. It is a mix of Korean, Kor-English, and Rock music. Songs like Ultramania and Another Truth may leave you asking "This is dance music?"
But PIU has it's fair share of gems in the music dept., but it all depends on the version of game you get. PREX, PREX2, or Premiere 2 are your best bets in getting the best versions.
As for play, my honest opinion is that PIU outperforms DDR with its step layout and well choreographed songs. There are 15 combinations of steps you can hit (not including 3-panel steps) as opposed to DDR's 10. The middle button makes all the difference.
Lastly, PIU is HARD! There are some mighty damn difficult songs in this game. Best option is 2x speed to better read the steps.
Find a few songs that you really like, and I am sure you will enjoy the game every bit as much as DDR. |

SC, what I mean is that most 'expert' DDR players can A every song on every mix, so the continued play is just sharpening of skills and excercise. With PIU, it seems that most expert players are still baffled by some of the level 8's and 9's of Crazy mode.
Slam has been around since Perfect Collection's debut in early 2000, and three years later it is still the benchmark by which all difficult songs are compared to.
But mostly, it is to say that a six-footer in Heavy is literally nothing compared to some of the level 6's on Pump. Just for starters, try 'Gotta Be Kidding!' and "Gentleman Quality" and you will see just how hard a level 6 can be. THen again, I think GBK deserves an 8 anyway, since the leveling system is a little screwey. |

You bet it is! When I started my transition from Normal to Hard, I looked at Rolling Christmas and saw it as a 3, so I thought it was a good song to start. After the song was over, I realized that the rating system was pretty screwy. The transition from Hard to Crazy is pretty much the same. Didn't confuse me as much the second time. Now I can pass most 7 and some 8 songs on Crazy and some 6 and 7 songs on Double. Another a true heart (a.k.a. Cordiality and Another Truth) , the level 7 version, on Double is one of the best Double songs ever.
What boggles me is that I watched someone play Mr. Larpus on Crazy and pass, but fail on Slam. Slam should be a 10.
I like the DDR rating system much better.
Ands since I'm on the topic of Slam, is it humanly possible to full combo those jumps near the end of the song, or are they just there to lower your health bar? I believe someone said they were 1/32 beats. The only thing I can think of is having another person use both feet on one arrow to help you out. Not probable, though. |

I've comboed a few sets of the jumps at the end of slam. But it is more or less just luck. |

Wow I just noticed this thread here. I actually do have a Perfect Collection to play here where I live so I feel a little more comfortable with my skill levels on it.
As for the rating system...a LITTLE screwy is an understatement. I can pretty reliazbly nail Beethoven crazy as a level 8 but some song by the Taiji Boys (song name fails me) is also a level 8 and is WAY freakin harder than beethoven. And Slam a 9?????? WTF!!!???!!!??? I prefer to think of it as a 15 or so. Getting through that with a good grade (A or B) in my opinion is an achievment above even combing legend road. Nothing even comes close to Slam difficulty wise. Those Jumps are 16th note jumps at 150 bpm I belive btw. And that...is simply not fair.
I imagine I'll be posting here quite abit now. I'm glad I saw this thread. _________________

Megido wrote: | Hi guys
I'm a resident PIU player, didn't know there was a PIU thread in the DDRfreak forums. Too bad there's only one thread though. No multiple topics on PIU, just one large thread. Or am I missing something?
I've been playing Pump for over a year, and I've been able to pass Beethoven Virus Crazy, and I seem to average about level 6 and 7 on most Crazy songs, with a few exceptions.
I also make sim files for Stepmania (in PIU mode only, have yet to make a DDR only step file) and Kick it Up. If you ever visit www.kickedup.com under the archives, my songs are under the name ROC Zombie. I make frequent DDR conversions like Exotic Ethnic and Tsugaru. I am currently working on Matsuri Japan (the remix). Is there a sub title to this song? The 5th mix version is also called Matsuri Japan and I am creating the 6th or 7th mix version (?)
If you play Kick it up, I also have a Premiere 2-ish looking skin that I posted.
I'll be in Las Vegas this week, and I will try out Technomotion for the first time. Hopefully Pump Platinum 3 will hurry up and get realeased. It's been over a year now! Konami makes a new DDR every 8-9 months it seems.
As for DDR, I am maybe an average of 6 - 7 feet on Heavy/Maniac.
EDIT: I've also made a lot more sim files under the name Rico before I changed it to Roc Zombie |
I've got quite a abit of your stuff actually! Personallly I think Your Tsugaru is fun to do on DDR with a pad. Tough but great fun. I enjoy your mixes man. Send some to me sometime! _________________

Prex 2 is much newer than premier2 but to my knowledge they contain more or less the same new songs. Going by the fact that nothing has been unlockable on pump before i'm willing to bet that prex2 doesn't include half doubles. |

Hey Hippie
Nice to hear from another pumper, and one who is familiar with my stuff. Sometime this month I will have my songs uploaded to my personal yahoo briefcase for people to download, so I will give you a link as soon as I get it up. Right now I only have 3 files on it.
It's a shame about Kickedup.com, going down and all. I few people are working on making a predecessor, but I think it will take some time to eclipse the popularity that KU had.
If you live in Northern Kentucky, near Cincy, I will be in the Cincy area on May 31st Saturday.
Take care! |
