Yeah, I am trying to write a Beatmania simulator but I need people to help in the project. First off, the simulator will read BMS files but I don't know the format of the files, so i need someone that knows the files to explain the format. Also, I need people to make graphics for the menus and song selection screen so that it looks good biggrin.gif

I think I will need more help that just that. If you can help me or explain anything to me, that would be great!

Well thank you. I still don't get one thing, the notes. a pattern culd be like 000030303030303000300 or like 000303030 or 33303030303.... How do I know how to parse it? Is it like DDR where you have quarter arrows and 8th arrows and 16th arrows and 24th arrows? Would it really suck if I created by own format for the files?

Your sim probably won't get much support if it's not compatible with the simfiles everyone already has.

So, yes, it would suck.

The current format is extremely versatile. It very easily supports notes of any spacing and measures of any length. That's really tough to do. For example, the DWI format is sort of crappy if you want anything other than powers of two and triplets. Where are my quintuplets (five notes in the space of four)?! *shakes fist*

Why not do what Stepmania did to get popular. Create a new better format but allow your program to run older formats. Then create a killer sim and soon youll go from a no name sim to a sim thats on top.

I agree, the sim will get more support going that way.

@userlain: good luck on getting the sim done!

I saw a Beatmania sim and tried it, it looked like crap and I still wonder how can you play it. I can understand the buttons but the turntable? Do you use a mouse for that? laugh.gif
