I've been posting this for like a week now and nobody had helped me out. Has anyone use the Official Sony Controller (No DualShock)? And if so would they please tell where all the solder points are. Thanx in advance. |

OK people, is there a list of controllers that work? I really need one. Especially a list of non dual shock controllers that work and are still available. Need it ASAP. You can also suggest a controller to me. Non dual shock preferred. |

Sounds interesting. I bought some magnets to experiment with but decided they weren't worth the effort. The amount of fine-tuning required was far too high so I decided to opt for nut spacers and 1/8" flex.

I was having this problem too. I made my test square using a hand sabersaw and a dremel sander I went to Home Depot, got my materials (hardwood for the squares, MDF for the base) and they cut it for me Its first 3 cuts free, 25 cents each after that. (Though mainly it is just a deterrent for people going in and getting a lot of time consuming cuts. They didn't charge me any extra for making my squares.) The one here (and I assume all others) has a super-size table saw as well as some sort of saw on a gliding grid thing. Your wood stands up against a wall-thing and they can saw huge pieces easily with that.
Well, the point is (and the lesson I learned when making this pad) was to use the right tools for the job. They cut all the squares for me in about two minutes. (Because their saws are massive, they can stack up pieces and cut multiple boards at a time.)
Scoring/breaking four pieces of lexan took a lot longer than cutting 24 11x11 squares. Lexan is hard stuff. Make sure you get THEM to do it. The guy was pushing as hard into the cutter board (again, a verical contraption) to score it. He ran the (fixed) blade down the board about 8 times, then had to really put his weight into snapping the cut. You do NOT want to handle lexan by yourself. Get them to do it. (I got 4 pieces of 11x16 or something. Each piece required one score/break to get it to 11x11)
So, get them to do it for you. It saves you TONS of time and effort. Even if they charge you per cut, (25 cents, oh no!) it is really worth it. Trust me |

I completely agree. eBay should be notified of this.
You shouldn't let people do that kind of thing. There was one kid who got about $10,000 by doing bids, getting the money, and not sending the item. Fortunately he was caught. |

djdtalongrl79,
i will be using .22 inch plexiglass, its similar to the one riptide uses in his video
homedepot sells a sheet of 2'x4' for 27 dollars ( which will be enough for 2 pads for me, this pad will not be capable for adding lights )
i forgot about controllers and some other small things,
final price for 2 pads probably end up around 80-85 bucks. no corner braces so, thats a huge chunk off.
also, i wont have to worry about cutting ANY wood diagonally, so thats a nice plus.
if i can do this flawlessly i will post up some more details.

They tried to cut Lexan for me at Home Depot... and broke TWO blades before saying "sorry, we can't do that here" . _________________

I wanted to thank the people who were helping me about the Lexan. During a fit of insomnia last night, I worked out the rough sketch of my pad. I picked up something that isn't plywood (forgot the word for it), some 2x4's, and a Skil Saw 5700 (the one with the light). today. My local Lowes only has one sheet of .250 plexiglass. Home Depot has something (would be nice if it is labled or something) in lots of sizes. I was going to get the .250, but I heard some people are getting two layers of thinner stuff and sandwiching the picture inside. If I use two sheets instead of one, what size should I be using?
If my design works, I will be posting detailed blue prints (I'm not good at narrative directions). Each step will have a micro switch from mouser electronics and a knob for fine tuning the sensitivity. I'm figuring that the plexiglas will flex just enough in the middle and return to it's flat shape. if it doesn't, then I will have to change the design just a little. OK, now for the second question, Don't forget the first was how thick plexiglas should be if I use two sheets for each step with arrow papers in the center. Second is does the plexiglas retain a flat shape or will it eventually get bent? |

Yeah I asked the cutter person when I bought mine and he said they don't cut it. |

Several people have used the original psx controller including myself and it works very well. For the solder points you have to carefully scratch off the black stuff on the directional arrows until you see the cooper contact. On each direction there is a ground (indicated by a green line that leads to the center of the directional pad). The other contact is what you HAVE to solder to and you can just use 1 of the grounds preferablly one that is easy to drill a hole next to.
If i confused you just take a piece of cooper wire and touch some contacts till you fiqure out what is what. _________________

The brighter the better! Everyone seems to be doing lights now... But has anyone actually gotten a well working lighting system yet ? _________________

Viewing angle should be fine. The viewing angle on mine are actually only 12 degrees, but it doesn't matter if you put a reflector at the bottom of the arrow well and face the LED down into it. A reflector will spread the light out over the arrow much better than if you aimed it upwards even if you had a large viewing angle.
So, the way I'm lighting the pad, the light hitting the top of the arrow panel will be secondary, reflected light. The type of material used to reflect and how it's curved will determine how well the light spreads across the panel. I ran a simple test with one LED and alluminum foil as a reflector, and the results were surprisingly good. _________________
