I think stamina is the big issue for me too, even though I run track and do all that stuff. Reading the steps is okay, but I often fail the harder, faster songs because I start running out of energy towards the middle and the end. |

oooookkkkkkkkkkkkk...........But yeah stamina is my giant problem. Just gotta keep practicing the songs. Like Cartoon Heroes took me a while to get stamina for. BTW if u guys need help memorizing steps dl stepmania or DWI. I strongly reccommend DWI but it helps u memorize the steps great. |

i dont think stamina or "foot speed" play a major part in being a good DDR'r. it really is just about planning ahead, seeing the notes and knowing ur beat. Also lets say you have 3 1/8 notes...um...RDL. Does any1 go Rfoot Rfoot Lfoot? Also also, just because somebody progresses in their DDR skills doesn't mean ur a bad DDR'r, but just some people catch on quicker. I've been playing DDR for maybe 4 months now and i can bearly do Paranoia 2MB on standard with default game settings. |

I have been playing for about 3 months. I can barely pass 7 footers on maniac. I can handle the jumps, 1/8 steps and regular steps just fine. The problem I am having is processing 1/4 steps and 1/2 steps. I can tell that they aren't regular steps or 1/8 steps, but i cant figure out the beat. Does anyone have any pointers on how to read these?

yeah. the way i see it, if you can walk without your friends practically dragging you to the car, you need to go back to the arcade and play for another half hour. (right brandon?!?!?! lol)

The more you practice a song, the better you get. I myself practice "Abyss" Heavy steps on DDRMAX and I once came one step away from a AAA ranking. I even got an AA on Max 300 Heavy! So practice a song repeatedly, and you'll just go naturally through. It's a cool feeling, just flowing your body through the music and hitting so many Perfects and Greats. I have many AAs, As, and even 4 AAAs, with 3 months experience of DDR playing, so I know what I'm talking about. |

Yeah man. Search long and hard for a machine that doesnt have auto fail (the function that stops the song when your life bar drops below visible). These are tough to find, but if its an older machine in an unpopular area than you should be fine.
Save up many many many quarters.
Play the song continuously. It shall be the only song you play until you can pass it with your eyes closed.
This sounds really stupid and like a waste of time and yes, people will eventually make fun of you. But it works. The only other way to master an incredibly hard song that ive found is to get a metal home pad and just play the poopy out of it.[/list] _________________

Well i'd say stamina and endurance plays a big role. To build endurance i usually jus play max 300 as many times i can in row. After a while songs that would get u a little tired don't. _________________

One thing that I have learned that makes you better at DDR is to keeep a positive attitude. Before I got good, I was doing six footers and focusing on how many boos and almosts I got. Instead, focus on how many greats and perfects you got. Let's say you did Max 300 on Heavy but you failed. Instead of thinking " I got 58 boos and 70 almosts!" think " I got 150 perfects and 60 greats!"
Another thing is to do songs that you like. If you really like a song, play it a lot, then put in on shuffle, boost, reverse, etc. Right now one of my favorite songs is Irresistiblement. When I first started playing, I played it on light until I got a full combo, then I moved up to standard, and now that I got a full combo on it on standard I'm going to move up to heavy. It's a 9-footer, so I'm hoping that it will be my first cata passed.
Also, be persistent. If you can't beat a song at first, keep trying it. For example, I used to have a lot of trouble with My Summer Love on standard. I really wanted to beat that song because I really liked it so I kept practicing it over and over again until I got an A. The same thing happened with the Sexy Planet oni steps and Janejana on Heavy. Now I don't even break a sweat on these songs.
Lastly, Have lots of fun! Try to make lots of friends while you're playing and you will never have to dance alone. Plus, your friends can help you out with difficult songs and make you feel better when you fail! _________________

wow, you guys are like child prodigies. 3 months? And 4 AAA's. 3 months time I was easing into trick. anywho...
For songs with lyrics, sing them, I was singing Captain Jack grendale mix and I passed it on maniac with a C. =D _________________

STAMINA
3 things that helped my stamina
1st thing that allowed me to go much much longer is playing generally speaking 80% heel / 20% ball of foot. personally when i land on the balls of my foot my quad's feel more labored. landing on heel may jade one's spine a little but if you feel like you can adjust your movement to lessen that jarring, the effect of heel landing will make your foot land flat thus, helping GREATLY with accuracy (less goods). to me my legs just feel less labored generally
2nd thing is feeling your muscles. i just carried this over from piano playing. when you move listen to your (leg) muscles - they'll be tense and feel slightly warm/hot after a movement, but if you let them turn into jelly (or relax) RIGHT after the movement - you'll feel you can move faster
3rd super low foot height, something i noticed from really good technical players. a guy who A'd max unlimited just looked like fast shuffling SUPER LOW FOOT HEIGHT
~this stuff helped me anyways |
