Robbiej: its probably because the background music is an mp3 file. you need to convert it to wav or xa format for bandjam to read it, then you need to alter the *.gda file to make sure the line:

Try a clean install of DTX mania, make sure you have DX8.1 (maybe even reinstall it) also get the latest video/sound card drivers. Also there could be background programs running that are disrupting ...
