In a decisive move to compete with Rock Band, the new version of Guitar Hero will get its own drums and microphone.
My favorite quote of the article:
"I certainly think it takes the edge off 'Rock Band'," said Mike Hickey, an analyst with Janco Partners. "What's 'Rock Band' going to do now, add a flute and banjo?" _________________

What Rock Band is going to do is add turntables and then everybody will assume that everything else ripped off of their "original" idea. _________________

LOL! 2 turntables and mixer! Maybe even the whole marching band! But, all jokes aside, I may just buy it just for the heck of it, why not? But, i'm a DDR freak for life and no other games could change that fact! |

Somebody should add keyboards. That's the next obvious move. |

Or, you know, its a feature that adds replay value and increases the competitive potential for the game, in addition to assisting the player in improving their timing.
But yeah, let's just put words in peoples' mouths because apparently someone has sledgehammered a nerve. _________________

You heard wrong.
Rock Band >>>>> GH3
And although it is a complete ripoff, GH4 does look interesting, so depending on how it turns out, I may be getting it. _________________

I think timing windows make music games infinitely more fun. _________________

i think it really depends on the style of game, and with the party-focused gameplay of rock band, it really doesn't need them. guitar hero i guess could use them, but now thats its rock band clone, i guess it really doesnt. |

People would cry their eyes out about timing windows but it would definitely be an improvement. It needs a bump in difficulty besides just adding more stupid shredding a la slayer and dragonforce. As has been said, it would give the game way more replay value. _________________

The thing is that everyone is already amazing at Guitar Hero, because the only way to be amazing is to hit everything and use your Star Power well. There are already tournaments as it is, which has always confused me, because I don't know how the judgement for those can be fair in any way... If they're keeping the game similiar to what it is at all, I think timing windows would make it pwn.
Rock Band I guess is OK either way. I personally think you can have a party-natured game and still have timing windows for competitive play, and there is a pretty decent competitive scene, online at least. I think it would make scoring more interesting. There is sort of a window for singing already, and I like the judgement for that more than the judgement for guitar, bass, and drums. Also, pretty much everyone is good at Rock Band by now too.
I guess I'm sayin', I think they could keep it fun and awesome for people who don't want to take it seriously at all (like me; I only play Rock Band at parties with lots of nachos and soda and possibly alcohol) and make it have really amazing competitive potential & replay value with timing windows.
Like before DDR became a competitive thing for me. I didn't really care less if I was getting perfects or greats, as long as I passed. It was fun to get Cs on things, which kind of makes me giggle in retrospect. A lot of people just wouldn't really care, and a lot of people would like it. I don't think many people would seriously be opposed to it.

I think this is a good point. Timing windows could only help. For those that want to be competitive - it will be a great way to add more depth and enjoyment to the game. Other people really only care about passing, so the timing windows won't bother them. |

I still say the funniest (and saddest) part about this whole mess is that Konami will officially be ripping off their own idea.
Rock Revolution (what the shit?) is going to need KOs just to differentiate itself, particularly considering what they've got currently is just the other two lists mixed together (and all covers is a little ick). No customizable avs AND a third proprietary drumkit is just ruining an already dubious sell. (Fourth, actually... Konami will soon be producing two incompatible drumkits. *facepalm*, etc.)
My girlfriend already owns Rock Band and I own GF/DM. I'm not too concerned with Activision stamping their product and PR into the ground, but I'm wondering who was smoking what over at Koami to come up with this one.
