I'm sure everyone has said this already, but arcade play is necessary for competitive skill. _________________

maybe so but not everyone wants to play competitively.
that being said I hate playing at home, I'd only feel happy playing at home if i had myself an arcade pad to play on at home. softpads and non sunken metal pads are eww. _________________

Arcade IF:
Good (subjective) mixes are present
The pads work where FC AAs/even AAAs are not impossible
Home if:
Metal pads, but good ones like the Bluesharks.
Jaqpanese versions, or hacked (arcade windows, etc) versions of DDR. _________________

Sure, and that's fine. But if you want to play seriously, you must play at the arcade. _________________

I dont get to play in the arcade often, but i play home on my metal pad all the time. With enough practice at home i can now AAA a lot of stuff, would you guys think, in your own personal experences if i were to play arcade the same amount i did at home would i be able to AAA at the arcade alot easier? _________________

arcade because of the sound quality , more songs, and pads. (I like the newer type of pads from DDR supernova. Not sure why they just work better for me and seem more sensitive to me) .....or maybe because all the older pads are all insensitive and worn out...... |

Unless you have two Bluesharks or Cobalt Fluxs or two really good homebrews plus StepMania with about 300+ songs plus a PS2 to USB adapter that doesn't lag plus a very fast computer to run StepMania plus a 32" monitor for it to display on plus some really good speakers to hear the music, I would have to say arcade. |

Yeah, arcade all the way, unless you have like a arcade style home pad. |

I honestly prefer playing at home because you don't usually get harassed by dumb people who think that because DDR has the word "dance" in the title that it's automatically gay. But since home versions have timing windows the size of Alabama, scores on home version don't count. It's not that I have a problem with home version scores not counting, but if people weren't always like "OMFG U DID DAT ON HOME VERSION U SUX0R N00B" to other people, I wouldn't have a problem with people being elitists. |

All of you have great points and the feedback is invalueable.
I myself completely SUCK at DDR. I guess thats why I merely own it for profit rather than to play it.
I do enjoy watching pople play. Watching is almost as addicting as playing, thought I wouldn't know for sure, being an inept player about as skilled at the game as a 5 yr old.
That being said, Play on, Play hard, and keep the A/C and/or fan running while you do.
BEST OF LUCK!!!!!!!

They're both good, but I prefer the arcade.
For the home version, I have a tenancy to find songs that I like and go out and play them even more in the arcade versions.
And, yeah, the arcade does cost money, but it's got a whole helluva lot more songs that home versions can't offer.
Heh, you may even find songs that you don't have in any of the home versions that you may own. (ME! )
Besides, I just like the feeling of the arcade and the thumping bass that those huge speakers give off. |

I'm also split between the two, I like to go to the arcades, but money and time are not alway on my side. I do make new friends at the arcades though. I also like playing at home for comfort, practice and to save money, and could play at the crack of dawn or late at night if I please! We also have good sound thanks to the home theater, and a 40in flat screen! |

Well, Playing at home certainly is fun and good for you to develop confidence and to master techniques, however the arcade is generaly pretty unpredictable unlike playing at Home, Arcade pads are either good working ones, or poopy ones that dont register freeze arrows (GOD I HATE THAT!).
But also, I personaly like to show off xD DDR is much more fun when you know someone is watching going :O _________________
