How come we do not have the privlege of locking our own threads. This would stop all of the people going, "lock please."

It could lead to people just locking threads if they are in an argument or if they don't like where the topic is going, etc.

People may also "accidently" lock the thread.

Tbh, it would create a bigger problem than the relatively small problem of a few people who think they are 'mod material' by announcing that they think that a thread is over. It's just buttocks kissers trying to get added to site staff by 'proving their worth' or something like that. To be honest I'd love an announcement that 'requesting locks' would lead to points for 'pointless posting/postwhoring'. E13.gif At least it would shut these people up.

Anyway, I as a non moderator see no further purpose in this thread and would like to request a lock. Hey mods look how I made this decision for you, wouldn't it be easier if you gave me the power to excercise my will on this board eh eh eh?

(annoying huh)

You can lock your own thread in the Marketplace. Outside of that forum it would invite too much abuse.

I don't see how "mod please lock" is any different than locking it yourself. How often is there a situation where someone requests a lock and a mod says no?

Why user locking is a bad idea, a mini-coversation.
Brought to you by me, yes me, VxJasonxV.

OP: "Hey guys! Extreme 3 was just announced! This is game is going to have every song ever plus 2 new ones."
Member 1: "2 new ones? That's balooney, didn't Konami stop making music?"
Member 2: "Extreme 3 was not announced, your head stories aren't announcements."
<2 days later>
Member 1829: "Hey guys, Extreme 3 was just announced for real! I don't know if the OPs post was just a coincidence or not, but it looks really good for real!"
Member 1337: "Yeah, it really does! Let's hope the songlist keeps the gravy train rolling!"
<insert 3 pages and a days worth of news>
OP: "SCREW YOU GUYS, I HATE YOU, YOU ALL DIE AND I WILL JUST SIT THERE AND LAUGH"
<OP locks thread, multiple retaliation posts are created in respone>
Cleanup in isle Console!

Then Mr. Mod comes in, unlocks, splits the op's posts out of the thread (which SUCKS to do with threads spanning multiple pages), and someone else is bestowed the power.

Mods shouldn't have to start every important topic (not to mention if someone else starts it, we have no easy way to make one of us the 'first poster'). Now, we obviously do for headlines, however, headlined threads are a FRACTION of the new threads posted.

The simplest way to put it:
Give people a button, and they will push it.
