Instead of having only the 3 current attainable levels for normal users, beginner, light and trick (whereas there are actually more unattainable levels - vivid, maniac, oni, staff), how about having either a 10 level system based on the amount of feet (1-10) or even a 40 level system based on the amount of feet and levels beginner to maniac. That way, you could keep the unattainable levels on the oni levels, with their own foot rating depending on the staff, mod, contributor, admin etc levels.
It would actually mean that your user level is relevant and could easily show post count/reputation/amount of time spent on the boards or any combination of these could be put towards it. Also, warning points could be easily used to have temporary sharp deductions from these levels... a level 7 trick member for example getting 3 points going down to a level 8 beginner member (take away 3 levels per point or something) for example would be a better deterrent than what you currently have. Probably get rid of a lot of flaming and make for more contributive posts too.
Also, for higher level users you could have a separate high level forum...
Anyway, I and probably many other users would approve of these adjustments to the board =) |

Good Idea.
If you get a warning, you go back to Beginner user and you will only be able to post once day.
Problem though.... If you just join the forum...
How they know if the new users just join or not?
New user will be on Level 1... then they didn't know they gotten ban for no reason at all.
I guess everyone starts as ONI user then. When they reach Beginner user, they're ban. Seems weird.
What's the point of having high level seprate forum?
The forum all going to be the same, unless Upload sm files are hidden in it.
If there were seprate forums for higher levels, Lower levels going to start spamming. |

There's a reason that the top post count page had all references to it removed. _________________

Just saying it could be one contributing factor in user level... though personally I prefer the rep system. If someone makes good, contributive posts, people can give them reputation points.
Post count admittedly does lead to postwhoring, so I suppose that rep is a much better counter. It means that the quality, not the quantity of your posts is what will contribute. |

There's an option in the memberlist that lets you see the users with the most posts. |

I know there isn't, I thought it was stated that it had been removed. I was talking about in most forums. |

We used to have a reputation based member level, known as SSR. It worked for a couple months and then everyone who wasn't SSR started flaming those who were, saying they kissed up to the mods or whatever.
A system where users can give out reputation points is flawed because they don't have to give out points based on good reputation. They don't have to give out points based on anything. Have a couple friends? Boost each other's reputation points so you can all feel special.
If someone wants to have a good reputation at DDR Freak, then they can be a great poster. They will be recognized without the need of a foot. Those who want to get a new foot level would only try to contribute until they get the foot level. Then what? If they don't continue to be a great poster, can other users give them negative reputation points? That would be even worse.
It seems to me that in order for it to work properly we would have to devise a complicated system, or put the system only in the hands of the mods, where it would become like SSR again.
I can look at users and see how long they've been here. I can read their posts and see if they're a positive contributing member or an idiot. I don't need a foot level to do that for me.
Also, if you want a new user level you can contribute and become a Contributor. _________________

Get a rep mod. Ban people from the system if they abuse it. Simple as that.
Have a strict policy; You EARN rep, don't ask for it. |

Orrrrr avoid it entirely and save a lot of effort into ultimately nothing by not implementing this in the first place. _________________

Oh, I was just offering a suggestion on the old system, which really was kind of pointless. I really don't want this. |
