Arrow codes:

Some people add mods to things when they are in the menu rather than adding them in the options menu or are just used to adding them, no options. For the people who do that, here's a complete list of mods for ya:

Here's what I could find and I've got StepMania 3.9 alpha 10 running:


Adds alt. Speed mods (like WAVE and DRUNK): (LDR)

Shuffle (DUDU)
From Shuffle to Super-Shuffle: (DULR)

Boost: (LRUD)
Use this to cycle through other boost mods

Hidden: (LUR)
Repeat that code to cycle through Sudden, Stealth, Blink, and Random.

Sort by catergories

Reverse Scroll: (DLRLR)
Use this to cycle through other scroll mods

Right: (UDLR)

Left: (UDRL)

Mirror: (ULRLR)

Cancel All mods: (LRLRLRLR)

OK, CD titles FAQ:
There are two types of CD titles, the kind that are used with already installed CD titles like:

#CDTITLE:.\CDTITLES\DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION 4TH MIX.PNG;

It tells the StepMania program to open CD Titles then 4th MIX.

If you have a CD title already included in the file (like most) then you'd use this:

#CDTITLE:(name of CD title);

That looks for the the Graphic named what you have and makes it the CD title.

NOTE: JPEG cannot have translucent CD titles, only .PNG, or at least that's what I'd use.

I have Stepmania 3.9 alpha 12. I have announcer packs in both the stemania\programs\announcers\*pack* (where it installs itself) AND copied into the stepmania\announcers\*pack*

I am not getting ANY announcer sounds whatsoever in the game. I have tried the Zig the robot announcer created by the nice member here, and one other one I can't recall that I downloaded off the stepmania site.

Has anyone experienced this or has any suggetsions? I search didn't turn much up for me.

Of course, now I realize I should have read this thread all the way through before posting this, my apologies I'll do that now as well!

Ok, the announcers aren't working probably because you don't have them selected in the menu....go to options, then appearence then announcer then right on over to Zig.

i just Dl'd alpha 13b

and it wont even go to the main menu, it starts off by foing to the "StepMania, press start" screen, then crashes

on the crash screan it said

"crash reason: Breakpoint"

can some one plz help, i wanna play

Hmmm....I'm not too good with handling something that has been out literally less than a week, I myself stick to A12, which has been out a month plus, grab that and tell me if you have any issues. And are you submitting the bugs you get to SourceForge? You're probably going to want to becuase this helps them make a better final 4.0, which I'm expecting sometime in the next few months or so I'd say.

Sorry for posting this a second time in a different thread, but I didn't get any replies in the general sim help thread. Hopefully the Stepmania-specific thread will prove more fruitful...

How do I get the #DISPLAYTITLE: in a .dwi file to work in StepMania? I know this tag wasn't supported in older versions of StepMania. It must work in the newest version, though, since when I download songs like Sakura the title shows up as kanji in the scroll bar using just a .dwi file. When I make my own .dwi, though, I can't get displaytitle or displayartist to work. I even tried copying all the files from a song that worked into a new directory and renaming the files, and that didn't work either.

The first three lines of the .dwi I'm trying to get working look like this, with the file of the name given in the same directory as the .dwi and .mp3:

#TITLE:Shuo Ai Ni;
#DISPLAYTITLE:{SHUO AI NI-char1.PNG};
#ARTIST:Cai Yi Lin;

for some reason i dont have a title screen on my stepmania (3.9alpha10)

what happens is it opens up to a white screen with the stepmania logo saying press enter
then it goes to that red title screen where normally there'd be a bunch of options but it just says "no charge to join" and all i can do is press enter

where'd my options go!?!?!!?!?
all i can do is go right into pick how many plaers, then pick music
i need options so i can add announcers and do all that stuff

Welcome to my world, robbiej.

I've never seen this problem, but I can suggest the following that should help. View this as an opportunity to upgrade to a newer version of StepMania... alpha 12 seemed pretty good, and although I haven't used it enough, alpha 14 doesn't seem too bad either. Download the new version. Uninstall the old version, which should leave behind your songs (make some backups just in case if you want to be extra careful). Delete everything left in the folder that isn't obviously something you want to keep - songs, skins, scores, etc. Install the new version. You should have deleted your old options files somewhere in this process, so now whatever option it was that got set to cause your problem will be gone.

Horatio - Are you sure the graphics file matches the name you've denoted perfectly? What about the format? Other than those possibilities, I have no idea.

robbiej - The problem is that the coin mode on your game has been set to something other than "home." In order to change this, you press the operator key (scroll lock by default) and you'll enter the options menu. I'm not sure exactly where in the menus the coin mode is in Alpha 10, but if there is a "Coin Options" menu, it is there (otherwise I would look under "Machine Options," and otherwise I would just hunt around...it's in there for sure). Set the coin mode to "home," and your menu will appear as normal .

RobbieJ, does it freeze before it even gets to the title screen, or does it get to the title screen and when you press enter nothing happens?

F3 to change coin modes, F1 to put in a coin. Mess around with those if your problem matches the second.

Horatio, here's what I'd do:

Rename that file (SHUO AI NI-char1.PNG) so it's one word, maybe SONGCHAR.PNG. It doesn't have to have the same name as the song Try this and see what happens.

i have alpha 14 and would like to use the extreme skin

its not working....it crashes right after you choose your difficulty, if you have any suggestions please send me a private message if possible (i dont usually hang out in this forum)

if necessary link me to a site where i can download a copy of the extreme theme or let me know why it wont work...thanx

ghengisjon - If you're using the Extreme skin from savageddr.com, it hasn't been updated yet to work with Alpha 14 yet. I believe that the skin formula changed between Alpha 12 and Alpha 13. Unfortunately, unless you have a lot of experience with skinning, you'll probably have trouble modifying it to work, so you'll just have to wait until it gets updated by the creator.
